Overview

This course strengthens your ability to lead, negotiate, and communicate effectively in Somali contexts. You’ll develop functional Somali for professional scenarios—greetings, meetings, short emails, and public remarks—while exploring the cultural foundations that influence decision-making and conflict resolution, such as xeer (customary law), shir (councils), clan dynamics, poetry, and proverbs.

Through role-plays and case studies, you’ll learn how Somali identity, history, and governance heritage shape modern institutions and diplomacy. The goal is practical: speak with respect, read the room, and apply culturally grounded approaches to engagement, mediation, and public communication.
